Traveling with a Partner

Traveling with the
one you love

I believe you should travel. Whether it's alone, with family, friends or strangers traveling helps expand your understanding of the world, making you a more complex and well rounded person. I learnt the importance of travel at a very young age, and in recent years have started to see the incredible value in traveling with your partner. I have had travel experiences that have opened my eyes to issues I would otherwise not have seen, and I have gone on trips that were nothing short of romantic bliss. Either way, these experiences have been invaluable in learning about myself and the relationship.

                        Why it's worth it:
Desert Mountain, Arizona 2015
1. You get to discover their sensitivity to other cultures, food and religious practices first hand.
2. The experience of traveling and all of the adventures that go along with it bonds people and creates lasting memories.
3. For better or for worse both of you get to experience each other when you are no longer in your comfort zone. This includes how someone reacts to stress, difficult situations or a change in plans.
4. The expenses are cut in half, and the two of you are forced to make budget decisions as a team. TripAdvisor can help you plan for the cost your experiences.
5. The focus is on you two. Without the distractions of family, friends and work to keep you two busy, your relationship gets extra attention as you spend your days hand in hand.

Tips to keep in mind:
Canmore, Alberta 2014
1. Talk - Communicating is key, make sure you both are willing and able to express how your feeling throughout the trip, even if it's uncomfortable.
2. Take your own space - It's ok to get up earlier than your partner, to read while they go for a swim or to take a walk while they nap. Allowing each other to have their own space ensures that both of you get to enjoy the trip to its fullest.
3. Make the effort - This is an always thing, but it becomes extra important while traveling. There will be times when one or the other is exhausted or simply in need of a helping hand, during these moments prioritizing your partners wellbeing goes a long way.
4. Be friendly - Don't cut yourselves off, talking to the locals or other travellers is a fun way to learn about other people and each other.
5. Relax - Something inevitably always goes wrong so don't micro manage, take a deep breath and do your best to let the flight delays and slight case of sunstroke just role off your back.

And remember- these are the moments that make for great stories!

Talk soon,

  6. I really agree on the "talk to the locals" point. It's the best way to find out where to eat.
